Hello, I am so glad you stopped by to check out my blog. I thought I would take a moment and introduce myself and what the purpose is for this blog. My name is Susie Hartz and I am Licensed Professional Counselor. I have had my private practice, Next Step Counseling for 8 years, but have been in the field for 10. One thing I have noticed during this time is that the stigma for Mental Health is still out there. Now don’t get me wrong, we have made some advances, but there are still WAY to may people afraid to step out and get help because of the fear of what their family, friends, co-workers, or fellow church family might say. I am hoping to share information that can help bring awareness to mental health and help encourage and empower others to be their own advocate and get the help they need to live their best life possible.
You may have noticed the drop of church family in that paragraph. There is a reason for that. My personal relationship with Jesus has played a Gigantic role in my own mental health struggles and if sharing my testimony brings just one person close to Him, it was worth it. I plan to share personal stories of the struggles I have gone through and how the use of secular counseling skills combined with Biblical truths have made such an impact on my daily life. Not only in my professional life but also my personal I love to meet people where they are and help them take the next step on their journey.
Lastly, our world is SO LOUD. Am I right? There is no shortage of advertisements, news articles, TicTok videos that encourage us to live loud, look a certain way, dress a certain way, along with the push of being as BUSY as possible. Once I started to change those expectations and chose to live a simple life that gets me back to the basics, my anxiety and stress levels improved so much. So the name of this site is Simply.SQ and maybe you have wondered what that means or where it came from. It is a mash up from growing up being called SusieQ (SQ) and my desire to live as simply as possible and focus on what is the most important to me and my family even if that looks totally different than what the world is screaming it should look like. So Simply.SQ was born. I hope you stick around for the ride!
